The wisdom of the ancient Chinese is seen in many forms. Their words often give guidance, even today. A form of poetry came about centuries ago called Tao Te Ching or Tao De Jing.
These short poems cause the reader to reflect on things which can bring harmony and balance to the world about them. Between human life and nature. They ask the reader to take a closer look at themselves and the life forces around them.
Many of us are familiar with the philosopher, Confucius, who used Tao in his teachings. You might even find many Tao poems in fortune cookies.
Here are some partial examples of Tao:
Manage a great nation as you would cook a delicate fish.
Men flow into life, and ebb into death.
We are each unique, and therefore valuable;
Though the sage wears coarse clothes, his heart is jade.The sage accepts less than is due
And does not blame or punish;
For harmony seeks agreement
Where justice seeks payment.
I once opened a fortune cookie and found the words "Be yourself so others may know the real you". These words have reminded me often let myself be seen as I truly am.
Other examples of wisdom have followed in the footsteps of the Tao. Not just in the form of poetry but in stories, folktales and fables. They strive to teach us important lessons in life.
